Apple’s India iPhone Production Reaches $14 Billion and Leaving China Behind

Apple Inc. has significantly increased its iPhone production in India, with the tech giant assembling iPhones worth around $14 billion in the last fiscal year[6]. 

This growth represents a 100% increase in production, signifying Apple's intensified efforts to broaden its manufacturing base beyond China[3]. 

According to sources, Apple now manufactures approximately 14% or one in every seven of its premium devices in India[3]. 

This shift from China to India is a strategic move by Apple to diversify its manufacturing base and reduce reliance on a single country for production[5].

The Indian government's "Made in India" initiative, which mandates that 30% of foreign companies' products sold in the country be domestically manufactured or produced, has played a significant role in attracting companies like Apple to establish production facilities in India[2]. 

The growth in iPhone manufacturing has resulted in the creation of 150,000 direct jobs at Apple's suppliers, benefiting the Indian economy and Modi's administration[2].

Foxconn Technology Group assembled nearly 67% and Pegatron Corp. about 17% of the India-made iPhones in the fiscal year ended March 2024, according to the Bloomberg report[1]. 

The remaining iPhones were made in Wistron Corp.’s plant in southern Karnataka state, which the Tata Group took over last year[1]. This distribution of production among different manufacturers highlights the growing importance of India as a manufacturing hub for Apple[1].
